KWSB eyes revenue from cantonment boards

KARACHI: Managing Director Karachi Water & Sewerage Board KWSB Misbahuddin Farid has directed that strategy must be formulated to receive betterment and commercialization charges from Cantonment Boards.

He said that we have also requested this to the Cantonment Officers and Station Commander several times during our meetings.

In a letter to Deputy Managing Director RRG and Deputy Managing Director TS he directed that a proper strategy must be formulated with the collaboration of Cantonment Board Officers and water connections of all defaulting consumers must be disconnected.

NOC for connection to under construction building must be compulsory. Various Residential and Industrial Consumers are availing the water supply without any prior permission neither there is any proper system to issue NOCs and receive betterment charges.

He said that in this regard a written agreement and MoU with Cantonment Board is a vital need of the hour. It would not only ensure recovery from Under Construction Buildings, Residential and Commercial Units but would also improve water supply and sewerage facilities. However, right now we are unable to receive betterment and commercialization charges.

The water supply system faces unwanted pressure due to addition of connections without N.O.C and not only affected the water supply but causing sewerage overflow as well, he added. Therefore, from now onwards, connection to all defaulters or consumers availing facilities without NOC would be disconnected.

He directed the concerned Chief Engineers and Director of Revenue Department to formulate and present a complete report in 15 days. The report must comprise of a list of water connections without NOC and a list of sewerage systems without NOC. He said that the officers failing to complete the list would face strict action.
