Karachi: The legal proceedings on Saturday remained suspended in all courts of the city as lawyers community observed a black day to mark sacking of Chief Justice of Pakistan Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry by former President Pervez Musharraf on 9th March 2007.
Black flags were hoisted on rooftops of courts and bar rooms while lawyers wore black armbands to observe the day with renewed committment.
A senior lawyer told Agency that black day is observed Justice Chaudhry was unconstitutionally removed on this day in 2007 by Musharraf. He said that on this day, Justice Chaudhry was summoned to Army House and was asked to resign, but he refused to obey unconstitutional decision of the dictator.
The legal proceedings at all courts in the city remained suspended as lawyers stayed away from proceedings of the cases due to black day. The general body meeting of Karach Bar Association was held in which lawyers expressed solidarity with the Chief Justice and supported him to continue his mission of making the courts independent.
