KARACHI: Provincial Minister for Local Bodies and Chairman Karachi Water & Sewerage Board Syed Awais Muzaffar has directed Managing Director KWSB to ensure swift operations, especially clean the sewerage line at the earliest and make sure citizens of Karachi do not suffer during Eid.
He said that as rain, sand and garbage enters KWSB lines choking them, therefore, machinery and jetting machines must be used to clean the lines. The minister local bodies directed that water supply and sewerage system must be ran as smooth as it was during Ramadan, especially in Malir, Baldia Town, Orangi Town, Liyari and North Karachi where complaints regarding supply and sewerage are higher than other areas must be given special priority. He directed that supply to Eid Gahs and Mosques where Eid Prayer is offered should be ensured so that citizens do not face trouble during prayers.
MD KWSB briefed local minister and chairman KWSB that breaches in Hub Canal had been repaired and supply from Hub Canal would commence by tomorrow evening. MD KWSB informed Chairman KWSB that he visited Hub Canal and pumping stations to inspect operations. Field staff is vigilant and field operations are fully functional, furthermore, it takes some time for the water to reach pumping stations therefore supply would normalize by Friday.
KESC is cooperating with KWSB in overall scenario but electricity breakdowns at Dhabeji, Gharo and Pipri Pumping Stations are causing disruptions however KWSB is striving to stabilize the water supply situation after rain. Moreover, under the supervision of Deputy Managing Director TS Chief Engineers of all Zones, Superintendent Engineers and staff officers are fulfilling their duties. However he informed that by tomorrow supply to all areas would be normalized.
Special teams have been formulated under the supervision of DMD T&S who would inspect and monitor Water supply and Sewerage facilities. These teams will ensure that citizens don’t face shortage in any area and ensure swift sewage. Whereas, orders to eliminate leakages and overflow as well as covering manholes have already been issued.
