Majority Pakistanis believe that the government’s performance will remain the same even if it collects more taxes, Survey

Islamabad, January 10, 2013 (PPI): According to a Gilani Research Foundation Survey carried out by Gallup Pakistan, majority (65%) Pakistanis believe that the government’s performance and administration will remain the same even if it collects more taxes.

A nationally representative sample of men and women from across the four provinces was asked “In your opinion, if the government receives more taxes will its performance and administration be better or will it remain the same despite more collections?” Responding to this, 25% believe that government’s performance will improve, 65% believe it will remain the same whereas 10% did not give a view.

The study was released by Gilani foundation and carried out by Gallup Pakistan, the Pakistani affiliate of Gallup International.

The recent survey was carried out among a sample of 2637 men and women in rural and urban areas of all four provinces of the country, during December 23, 2012 – December 29, 2012. Error margin is estimated to be approximately ± 2-3 percent at 95% confidence level.
