Mango crop under severe virus attack

TALHAR: Mango crop in district Badin is being attacked by a virus, damaging hundreds of the fruit trees and inviting attention of Sind agriculture ministry to take steps to save it.

The virus is likely to affect 30 percent of mango crop in Talhar, Badin, Golarchi, Tando Bago and Matli talukas.

Growers of mango orchards told PPI that they are using pesticides to save the crop but the pesticides are showing no result.

“We are facing losses to the tune of millions of rupees,” they said.

The prices of mangoes in coming crop may go up by 200 percent if government does not take steps to safeguard the crop being attacked by the virus, the growers observed.
