Peshawar: To examine the existing zakat funded programme and evolve mechanism for the assessment and recovery of Ushr in the province, a meeting was held under the chairmanship of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Minister for Zakat, Ushr and Religious Affairs, Haji Habibur Rahman at Peshawar on Tuesday.
The meeting thoroughly reviewed the pace of work on ongoing and new schemes. Matters pertaining to evolve an effective mechanism for the assessment and recovery of ushr also came under discussion. The meeting also discussed healthcare facilities to deserving people. Beside officials, the meeting was also attended by representative of Finance and Revenue Department.
Addressing the meeting the provincial minister directed the concerned department to extend all out cooperation to zakat department during transitional period in assessment and collection of ushr till the sanctioning of necessary staff for the task by the Finance Department.
He also called upon the officers of Zakat Department to involve their field clerks, zakat group secretaries and other staff too in the job.
He said that field clerks and group secretaries were drawing their salaries out of zakat fund which was mounting to injustice with zakat deserving people, and it had better to regularize the services of said employees enabling them to draw their salaries from the government kitty.
