Ministry looking various options for inclusion of additional gas into system: Mr. Sohail Wajahat

Islamabad: Minister for Petroleum and Natural Resources Mr. Sohail Wajahat H. Siddiqui has said that the Ministry is looking into various options for inclusion of additional gas into the system particularly for the power sector. He said this while chairing a meeting attended by Managing Directors of OGDCL, PPL, PSO, SNGPL, SSGCL, and senior officers of the Ministry of Petroleum.

Mr. Sohail Wajahat H. Siddiqui said that power sector holds second priority, after domestic consumers, for provision of gas as decided by ECC. Moreover, in view of the current electricity shortfall in the country, the Ministry of Petroleum has undertaken concerted efforts in coordination with the Ministry of Water and Power to implement workable solutions.

In this regard, the Minister Petroleum urged upon Provincial Governments to help implement the Gas Load Management schedule for various sectors and highlighted that consumers involved in gas theft be dealt with as per law according to the provision of the Gas Theft Act.

During the meeting OGDCL and PPL were instructed to pick up the pace of exploration and maximum supply from existing wells. Continuous supply of fuel to the power plants by PSO was reiterated and both the Sui companies were advised to implement the Gas Load Management schedule in letter and spirit.
