Mob burn alive alleged desecrator near Dadu

Dadu: Angry mob attacked a police station near here on Friday and burnt alive an alleged desecrator of Holy Quran.

Police said an unidentified man had burnt the copies of Holy Quran at a mosque of Sita Village Thursday night. The villagers caught the accused and handed him to police. However, on Friday morning an enraged mob besieged the police station, got the accused out of police lockup and burnt him alive.

SSP Dadu Usman Ghani receiving the information reached the police station and arrested its SHO and six policemen and lodged a case against them. Two separate cases were also lodged and more than 20 villagers were arrested.

SSP Ghani said it appears that the accused was a mentally challenged person and his charred body was beyond recognition. It was handed over to Edhi volunteers for burial.

Meanwhile, the prayer leader of the mosque, Molvi Usman Memon said that the accused entered the mosque Thursday night and slept there after offering prayer. However, when at dawn the villagers came to the mosque to offer Fajur prayer they saw that the accused had burnt the copies of Holy Quran.

The villagers beat him up and handed him to police and later a mob lynched him.

Further probe was under way.
