MQM will never boycott next polls: Farooq Sattar

KARACHI: Deputy Convenor of Muttahida Qaumi Movement MQM, Dr Farooq Sattar, on Friday termed the killing of his party activists and supporters as prepoll rigging and said that terrorists and extremists wanted to keep Muttahida away from general elections process but it would never leave its constitutional and democratic right and would never boycott the polls at any cost.

This he said while addressing a press conference at Khursheed Memorial Hall. Sattar demanded of the caretaker government and Chief Justice Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhry to take notice of kidnapping and killing of four MQM Lyari sector activists. He said that state elements and law enforcement agencies had launched operation against MQM but gangsters were free to kill and kidnap innocent MQM activists and supporters.

He said that their opponents wanted to snatch Mohajir mandate. The MQM leader asked how elections would be free and fair in such a situation. “When will government bring culprits to their logical end,” he said. Sattar elaborated that MQM Lyari Sector unit32 activist Khalil Ahmed’s elder brother and four other supporters were supplying meat in Mauripur medicine market when they were kidnapped and killed, while their bodies were thrown in Mewashah graveyard.

Sattar said that some state elements had hatched a conspiracy to compel MQM to boycott elections. He said that police could not eliminate no-go areas in Lyari as police mobiles were being used by terrorists. He said that despite all assurances by President Asif Ali Zardari and Election Commission, killings of MQM activists and supporters are still continued in Karachi.

MQM leaders Raza Haroon, Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui, Waseem Aftab and Dr Saghir were also present on the occasion.
