Karachi: Pakistan’s Nasir Iqbal cruised into the semifinals of the Burgan Bank Challenger 10 event after beating local qualifier Yousif Nizar Saleh in quarters at South Surrah Ministries Complex in Kuwait City.
Nasir battled for 80 minutes to overcome Yousif 511, 116, 116, 1517, 119. Saleh, an 18yearold ranked outside the world top 250, made his breakthrough in the opening round where he ousted thirdseeded Welshman Peter Creed.
Unseeded Nasir is lined up against Malaysia’s No2 seed Muhammad Asyraf Azan in prefinals.
Asyraf, the world No59 from Kuala Lumpur, also overcame a Kuwaiti qualifier beating 25yearold Fallah Mohammed 117, 1113, 118, 117 in 70 minutes.
Fallah had earlier dispatched another Pakistani player Danish Atlas Khan in the first round.
