Peshawar: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Minister for Information, Public Relations and ANP Parliamentary Leader Mian Iftikhar Hussain has said that a society violating the laws of nature cannot grow.
He said every type of addiction was against the nature and haram. He said “naswar” had never been a part of our culture; therefore, media and civil society should play their role for its control.
He was addressing a workshop regarding Smokeless Tobacco Control organized by Sustainable Development Control SDV at a local hotel in Peshawar on Tuesday.
Provincial Minister for Social Welfare and Women Development, Sitara Ayaz, SDV Executive Director Ziafat Zaman, Dr. Zakiullah and other speakers also addressed the seminar and threw light over the harmful effects of “naswar” and smoking.
Mian Iftikhar Hussain said every type of addiction was a bad thing therefore; everyone of us in our capacity should play a role to develop disliking for naswar and smoking.
He said no society in the world liked addicts therefore we have to protect our new generation from the menace of “naswar” and inculcate in them self confidence and self-control.
He said God has given us a very fertile land in which various vegetables and fruits of high quality are produced which is more beneficial and helpful than tobacco for the health of people. He said the use of any type of addiction should be banned and its use and motivation in public places should be a punishable crime.
Mian Iftikhar said Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Culture was very rich and peace loving and naswar had never been our culture, adding that it was a dangerous disease and could cause cancer.
He said the government as well as people belonging to every walk of life should play their due role in creating awareness among the people about the harmful effects of “naswar” and ways to control it.
Syed Adnan Shah, Noman Rauf and Irfan Durrani of “We Can Theatre Group”, on the occasion, presented a sketch regarding naswar which was highly enjoyed by the audience. Executive Director SDV Ziafat Zaman at the end presented shield to Mian Iftikhar Hussain.
