Islamabad: A two-day national conference on scope of participatory decision-making under different local government systems to be established in four provinces will start here on Monday.
Delegates from all provinces, including parliamentarians, representatives of civil society organizations, academia, students, media persons, donors and international organizations will participate in the conference.
The conference on “Citizens Participation in Local Governance” to be organized by Rural Development Policy Institute RDPI in collaboration with ActionAid Pakistan (AAPk) will discuss different dimensions of citizens’ participation in decision-making processes to improve the coverage and quality service delivery under local governments.
The speakers will identify the legal, administrative and other barriers to the citizens’ participation in their respective provinces.
The conference will make civil society recommendations for democratic, representative and inclusive local governments, having effective and efficient processes of participatory decision-making and mechanisms for citizens-led accountability and transparency.
