Nawaz Sharif has agreed to confederal system: Mumtaz Bhutto

Karachi: PML-N chief Mian Nawaz Sharif has accepted the confederal system, advocated by defunct Sindh National Front, and agreed to bring about drastic changes in the country after coming into power, Mumtaz Ali Bhutto said in a private TV channel’s program late last night.

“Before joining PML-N, we held detailed talks during which Mian Nawaz Sharif agreed to our view point. We have entered into an agreement according to which the PML-N would bring about drastic changes in the country’s system under the ideology of Pakistan,” said Bhutto responding to a question if Mian Nawaz Sharif has accepted defunct SNF’s program of confederation based on 1940 Pakistan Resolution.

Bhutto said he was also satisfied with Mian Nawaz Sharif’s stance on Kala Bagh Dam, as he has clearly stated that the dam wouldn’t be built without national consensus.

Mumtaz Bhutto, who joined PML-N last year, on another question, said he retired from election politics about 15 years back but would contest elections from NA-207 constituency if President Asif Zardari’s sister Ms. Faryal Talpur contested from same constituency. “However I would rethink if Bilawal is fielded from that constituency,” he said when asked and explained that although Bilawal is not a Bhutto but he is son of Shaheed Benazir Bhutto and for that they have blood relations.

Former chief minister of Sindh said that constituency was their ancestral seat and his father had given to Shaheed Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto and later Shaheed Benazir used to contest from there. “Why Zardaris are trying to come there. They should contest polls from their hometown.

Responding to yet another question, Mumtaz Bhutto said Bilawal Zardari was the heir of Shaheed Benazir Bhutto’s politics while Shaheed Mir Murtaza Bhutto’s children are the real heirs of Shaheed Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto. “Bilawal Zardari has started politics from Presidency under the presidential protocol contrary to the principles of popular politics of starting it from grass root level. Leaders rise from among the masses but in this case it is opposite and there is no place beyond presidency except falling down.

“Fatima Bhutto is not interested in politics and Zulfiqar junior is still studying and has not yet joined politics,” he told when asked why masses have not responded to them despite being real heirs to Shaheed Zulfiqar Bhutto.

Mumtaz Bhutto, cousin of Shaheed Zulfiqar Bhutto, on a query about difference between the Pakistan Peoples’ Party of Bhutto and the present one, said the present one is not even a party, as it has no ideology except doing politics of ‘reconciliation’ to plunder national wealth jointly.

He said PML-N would contest from most of the constituencies in Sindh and claimed that PPP would not be able to achieve the same position that it had in last elections.

Mumtaz Bhutto revealed that he has preserved the letters Shaheed Bhutto gave him during meetings in Kot Lakhpat jail. “I have also written a book but it is still incomplete and might not complete it, and even if it is completed, it might not be published, as I am in search of answer to my question whether I should follow the principle of truth or loyalty? I have not yet got true answer to it. If I disclosed the truth it would be disloyalty to a person who elevated me to the heights,” he said.

When asked why he didn’t join Tehreek-e-Insaf, Mumtaz Bhutto said Imran Khan is his close friend but his approach to the issues is unrealistic. “Imran Khan claimed to end corruption from the country in three months, which is impossible. He talked of ending Patwari system, which meant end of revenue system. He also talked of introducing police system with elected SHOs. All these things are unrealistic.

“When Shaheed Zulfiqar Bhutto formed PPP and a manifesto committee was constituted, we also discussed such things but felt that the European style system couldn’t be introduced here so simply. We have a very different situation. Now the Imran Khan himself has stopped talking such things.
