Need stressed to implement intellectual property laws

Karachi: Pakistan will have to protect its traditional knowledge, genetic resources and traditional cultural expression through intellectual property laws to earn respect in the comity of nations, said chairman Brands Foundation Imran A Riyaz.

He said if we neglected the intellectual property laws as per international laws we will be deprived of ownership of our precious traditional knowledge and resources in various areas. He said nature has bestowed us with the best intellectual human resource which is benefitting the developed nations because of the brain drain.

He said one the main reasons of this drawback is the lack of awareness of the global intellectual property laws and their importance for future business activities.

He asked the government and other stakeholders to take serious steps in this regard so that the intellectual property laws are also properly implemented in Pakistan.
