KARACHI: Ex-City Nazim Karachi Niamatullah Khan advocate on Wednesday said the development of Karachi Technology Island City KTIC is ideal project for employment generation and economic progress of Karachi and other parts of Sind as compared to development of Bundal Island project initiated by Bahria Town and the US company.
This he informed while addressing a press conference at Karachi Press Club. He informed that we had already reached an agreement to establish KTIC at this island in October 2002.
KTIC project was initiated by City District Government Karachi CDGK, Army Welfare Trust AWT, Pakistan Software Houses Association and Access Capital and EDP Services. The MOU was signed on 07 October 2002 between the parties and was witnessed by Prof Attaur Rehman, Federal Minister for Science and Technology, in Karachi.
He said development of the island by Bahria Town and American company is just a construction project which would only generate low level jobs and create housing & recreation facilities for rich people, whereas KTIC would generate much greater number of high level jobs and bolster economic activities on the patterns of Dubai Internet City and Bangalore in India.
He further said the new project of Bahria Town is nothing but just a bid to grab precious land for personal purpose.
KTIC Project Coordinator Syed Hamza Mateen said our project is aimed at converting an offshore island of Karachi with an estimated land of over 1200 acres, just off the coast of DHA Golf Course into a high tech city, where international technology companies could house their development/processing centers using huge technical human resources.
He said KTIC would benefit future generation by creating massive employment for engineers, IT & business graduates, doctors, scientists.
He said Bundal project has a great strategic value and Supreme Court of Pakistan should take suo moto notice in this regard.
He appealed to the federal and provincial governments to initiate KTIC project immediately and if someone, including Bahria Town or Eamaar, is interested in development, then they should join hands with Niamatullah Khan and his team.
