Islamabad: Leader of the Opposition Khurshid Shah in the National Assembly has said the government and the opposition parties should sit together and find a way for revival of peace and stability in the country.
Addressing in the house on Tuesday‚ he said it is our duty to get united to demonstrate to the world that Pakistanis are an honourable nation and can defend the sovereignty of the country.
He stressed the need to forge unity in our ranks to show to the world that Pakistanis can defend the sovereignty and territorial integrity of their country.
He said the recent drone attack in North Waziristan has sabotaged the dialogue process with Taliban.
Meanwhile, Responding to the criticism of the absence of Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan in the House by Opposition, Minister for Kashmir Affairs and Gilgit-Baltistan Muhammad Birjees Tahir assured that the Prime Minister and the Interior Minister will come to the House to respond to the concerns of the members on the drone attacks.
He said the decision to hold debate in the House on the recent drone attack in North Waziristan was taken in consultation with the opposition and the Interior Minister also gave a statement in the House on the issue yesterday.
Continuing the debate‚ Shah Mahmood Qureshi said the drone attacks are in violation of Pakistan’s sovereignty. He said dialogue is the only way to move forward to address the issue of terrorism.
Maulana Fazlur Rehman said Islam has nothing to do with extremism and terrorism as it abhors the bloodshed of innocent people. He said there is a need to address root causes of terrorism for revival of peace and stability in the country. He said dialogue‚ and not the use of force is the only way to steer the country out of current situation.
Maulana Fazlur Rehman said the government should convene another All Parties Conference to find a way forward following the situation created by the recent drone attack. He appreciated the government’s efforts for peace process and said no hurdles should be created in the way.
