Pak-Turkey bilateral trade important for region: KCCI

Karachi: Karachi Chamber of Commerce & Industry (KCCI) President Muhammad Haroon Agar has said that KCCI attaches high importance to Pakistan-Turkey bilateral trade due to geo-strategic locations of two brother Muslim countries.

Speaking on the occasion of the visit of Mrs H. Betul Akin, Commercial Attaché of the Republic of Turkey, he emphasized that successful implementation of Economic Cooperation Organization (E.C.O.) high speed train project connecting Islamabad-Tehran-Istanbul will enable Pakistan’s to export goods to EU vice versa Turkey can exports its goods to South Asia and Middle East from Pakistan.

Pakistan and Turkey are also exploring the possibilities of signing preferential Trade Agreement aimed to increase trade and investment. We hope that PTA would be signed in near future, he said.

He apprised that Zubair Motiwala, Chairman Sindh Board of Investment, with collaboration of Embassy of Pakistan in Turkey, was leading an investment delegation to Turkey comprising of businesspersons from various sectors of the economy. The Sindh Board of Investment has identified various potential sectors for investment promotion between Republic of Turkey and Government of Sindh which encompass Power & Energy, Hydel Energy, Wind Energy, Coal Energy, Bio mass, Education, Textiles, Food, Livestock & Aqua Culture, Infrastructure & Urban Development, Transport and Mass Transit, CNG Buses, Rapid Rail Transit System, Mining and Agriculture. President KCCI assured the Turkish Mission in Pakistan KCCI’s best cooperation and support to fortify bilateral trade and relations between Turkey and Pakistan.

Mrs Betul Akin, Commercial Attaché of the Republic of Turkey apprised that it was her maiden visit to KCCI to introduce and assure that she will pursue her predecessor Fisun Aktug who had completed her service tenure. She desired to work closely with KCCI on matters of mutual interest on Pak-Turk commercial affairs sought President’s support. She stated that tremendous trade opportunities between two countries. The Commercial Section of Turkish Consulate General in Karachi will maintain liaison with KCCI on trade and commercial affairs, she told.

Former President KCCI Majyd Aziz emphasized on the need to establish Turkish Special Economic Zone in Karachi. He said that Special Economic Zone Act was approved by the President of Pakistan. He stressed upon the need of strengthening bilateral trade ties owing to existing potential in various sectors. Senior Vice President KCCI Shamim Firpo assured that KCCI will extend best support to Turkish Consulate on commercial and trade issues. Vice President Nasir Mehmood asked the Turkish Commercial Attaché to invited Turkish companies in the KCCI’s My-Karachi Exhibition scheduled to be held in July 2013. Managing Committee Members of Karachi Chamber of Commerce & Industry also participated in the meeting.
