Pakistan boxing, tennis out of medal race in Youth Games (The Nation (Pakistan))

Pakistan’s boxing and tennis teams are out of the medal race tally of the Commonwealth Youth Games underway at Samoa.

According to Pakistan team leader and coach weightlifting team M Rashed Malik, Pakistan has already lost the first round in boxing and is out of the medal race and same is the case in tennis as Rida Khalid has already lost the first round and is out of the medal race.

In the weightlifting category, Pakistan lost to England. M Usman participated in 62kg category and lifted 90kg snatch and 106kg clean +jerk and total of 196kg but it was too less to win bronze medal. England snatch 88kg and clean+ jerk 110kg and total of 198kg which was 2kg more than Usman’s total.

Rashed said he had high hopes from Abdur Rehaman that he would show his skill and strength in 77kg category on today (Wednesday). “Rehaman is in good shape and we have a great hope from him to win a medal for Pakistan, he said.

In squash, Pakistan’s Sadia Gull lost her semi-final and played for third and fourth position match and finished fourth. Israr played his semi-final match and had to retire due to medical grounds. He had flue when he landed at Samoa on September 4.
