Following is the text of press note issued by Pakistan Navy
Pakistan Navy’s Command and Staff Conference concluded today at Naval Headquarters Islamabad. The Conference; chaired by Chief of the Naval Staff, Admiral Muhammad Zakaullah, was primarily aimed at reviewing Operational Preparedness, Developmental and Acquisition Plans of Pakistan Navy. Chief of the Naval Staff was given detailed briefings on various developmental projects of Pakistan Navy.
The participants of the Conference, while taking a comprehensive review of the prevailing Maritime environment in the region, the priorities and the ongoing projects, explicitly evaluated Pakistan Navy’s on-going relief and rescue Operation ‘MADAD’ for flood affectees of Punjab and Sindh.
Chief of the Naval Staff was briefed that highest priority has been accorded to address this catastrophe and all possible men and material resources/assets have been deployed in the flood affected areas under PN relief/rescue operation to provide all-out relief/rescue support to the affectees.
Pakistan Navy’s emergency response centres, established at Sujawal, Sukkur, Ormara, Gwadar and Karachi teams and Rescue teams are working relentlessly in coordination with PDMA and local government to render timely assistance to the people of Flood hit areas.
`The Naval Chief was briefed that till to-date, more than 18666 thousand people have been rescued, transported to safe areas and provided with necessary medical assistance and free ration. The house was apprised that Commander Pak Marines has been expressly stationed at PN Rescue Camp Sukkur to supervise the Relief efforts.
A Tent Colony has also been established by Pakistan Navy at Khairpur for Ty rehabilitation of displaced people and more than 40 tonnes of relief goods have also been distributed amongst them. The Naval Chief urged all to continue monitor the flood situation, keep-up the utmost efforts and judiciously utilize the deployed assets and resources with unswerving diligence to provide much needed assistance to flood victims.
Admiral Zakaullah also expressed satisfaction over operational readiness of Pakistan Navy and emphasized on the need for capacity building of the human resource and enhancement of operational capabilities so as to keep abreast with the latest technological advancements as well as rapidly changing regional and international scenarios.
Command and Staff Conference is held every quarter and is the apex decision making body of Pakistan Navy in which all Principal Staff Officers and Field Commanders undertake strategic review of Pakistan Navy’s Policies and Plans.
