Pakistan universities miss top 100 Asian varsities list Five Turkish universities in ranking besides 3 each from India, Iran, Saudi Arabia

Karachi: The Times Higher Education Ranking 2013 has issued a list of top 100 Asian universities and as expected not a single university is Pakistan is amongst this coveted list.

Japan remained on the top of the list with its 22 universities included in the ranking. Its University of Tokyo remained the number one university of Asia followed by the National University of Singapore. Another university of Singapore on the list was Nanyang Technological University which grabbed the honour of 11th top varsity of Asia.

After Japan the second position was bagged by Taiwan with it 17 varsities on the coveted list, followed by China with 15 varsities. Republic of Korea with its 14 universities was another Asian country with excellence in the field of education. Hong Kong got its 6 universities on the list, with its University of Hong Kong as the third top ranking university of Asia.

Turkey was a major Muslim country with 5 varsities on the list. Middle East Technical University of Turkey was the 22nd top Asian varsity. There were four Israeli universities counted amongst the top 100 universities of Asia, followed by Iran, Saudi Arabia, India and Thailand with 3 universities each on the list.

Three top Iranian universities were Sharif University of Technology, Tehran University of Medical Sciences, and Isfahan University of Technology. The three universities of Saudi Arabia on the list were King Abdulaziz University, King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals and King Saud University, while the Indian top universities included Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur, Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay and Indian Institute of Technology, Roorkee.

There were one each university from United Arab Emirates, Malaysia and Lebanon on the list. They were United Arab Emirates University, Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia and American University of Beirut.

There are 151 Universities/Degree Awarding Institutes DAI’s recognized and attested by the Higher Education Commission HEC but none of them was competent enough to find a slot in the top 100 Asian universities.
