Pakistani interest in World C’ship ends as Nasir falls

Karachi: The lone Pakistani player featuring in the AJ Bell PSA World Squash Championship, 19-year-old Nasir Iqbal bowed out of the event after being defeated by fifth seeded Egyptian Karim Darwish in the first round of the sport’s biggest event of the year at the National Squash Centre in Manchester.

The expected quarterfinalist Darwish found little resistance from Bannu based qualifier Nasir Iqbal and took only 28 minutes to record a convincing 11-9, 11-6, 11-5 victory to confirm his presence in the second round of the event.

Nasir had secured his place in the main rounds after defeating Germany’s Jens Schoor 11-13, 11-5, 11-6, 11-8 in 57 minutes in the qualifying finals.
