PCB chief gives green-signal to induct T20 players

Karachi: Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Zaka Ashraf said it was okay with the board if Pakistan ODI skipper Misbah-ul-Haq wants to induct players from T20 squad for his ODI team during the ongoing tour of India.

“Misbah has requested to induct players from T20 squad for the ODI series and we have told him that if he wants to include players from the T20 squad then the board has no issue,” Ashraf said.

Misbah on several occasions has said that he wanted to include players from the T20 team, who have not initially been added by the selectors in the ODI squad.

Although all-rounder Shahid Afridi had initially been snubbed from the ODI squad but he showed some good performances in the domestic tournaments, which helped the former skipper to get into the good books of Misbah.

Even before the tour began, Misbah had said that Afridi could be retained in the ODI squad as well.

Another former skipper Shoaib Malik, who is also like Shahid Afridi, is a part of T20 team but failed impress selectors for ODIs, also got a similar pat on his back from Misbah.

Shoaib is also hopeful to be inducted in the ODI after he scored an unbeaten half-century in the first T20 match against India, which the tourists won by five wickets.

“The players, who would be playing well in the T20 match, could be retained for ODIs as well,” Misbah-ul-Haq had said.

Misbah will lead Pakistan on 30th December, 3rd January and 6th January when the two traditional rivals meet in ODI clashes.
