Performance: 6 trainees enrolled in 3 years, all flunked

KARACHI: A total number of 06 trainees were enrolled in ‘refrigerator and air conditioner’ course of Vocational Training Centre Khairpur during 2007 to 2009 and none of them passed out, Sindh Assembly was told here on Thursday.

During the question-answer hour, MPA of PML-F Nusrat Seher Abbassi asked about the number of students trained in the Technical Training Centre Khairpur during 2007 to 2009 along with the subjects they were taught.

Minister for Sindh Technical Education and Vocational Training Authority (STEVTA) Sadiq Ali Memon replied that in the trade of refrigerator and air conditioner 6 trainees were enrolled at the centre during the period but none was passed out. In the trade of electrician 54 trainees were enrolled during the period and 36 passed out. In the trade of electronics (radio/TV) 20 trainees were enrolled during the period and 17 passed out. In the trade of machinist 13 trainees were enrolled during the period and 12 passed out. In the trade of auto mechanical 28 trainees were enrolled during the period and 18 passed out, while in the trade of computer operator 40 trainees were enrolled during the period and none passed out.

The opposition members pressed the minister to tell them the reason why just 6 trainees were enrolled in the particular course at the centre in three years but all of them flunked, the minister just said there could be multiple of the reasons. He, however, defended the performance of his department, saying they have trained a lot of youth in different trades and many of them got employment.

To a question of Heer Ismail Soho, Sindh law minister Muhammad Ayaz Soomro on behalf of STEVTA minister replied that 2101 employees of Technical Education, 996 employees of Labour and Manpower and 115 employees of Sindh Social Welfare Department have been merged in the STEVTA department.
