Performance of government institutions will improve as working group, Sikandar

Peshawar: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Senior Minister for Irrigation and Qaumi Watan Party Provincial Chairman Sikandar Hayat Sherpao Thursday noted that recommendations of Reforms Working Group RWG would help improve performance of government institutions as well as delivery system.

Presiding over the maiden meeting of Reforms Working Group of the Department of Irrigation here, he hoped that the recommendations of RWG would bring about considerable changes in every public sector, adding that positive inputs from public and private sectors would not only be welcomed but also incorporated in policy making.

The meeting constituted two sub committees to look into affairs of Irrigation department and submit their separate reports with recommendations in the next meeting of the group.

During the meeting the members recommended that small dams should be constructed in most flood affected areas to store the flood water and also to use it for irrigation purpose.

Senior Minister welcomed the suggestion and said that large pieces of land are lying barren across the province due to non-availability of water. If these pieces of land are being made irrigated the province would not only be self-sufficient to meet its food demand but would also be able to supply it to other provinces.

He said the provincial government has first time increased funds for Chashma Right Bank Canal CRBC from Rs. 50 million to Rs. One billion with a view to bring green revolution in the province.

The Minister said that Khyber Pakhtunkhwa is confronting various challenges including good governance and the coalition government of the province is committed to address this issue on priority basis.
