PMLN says security lapse resulted in Abbas Town tragedy

KARACHI: President Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz PMLN Karachi Division chapter Nihal Hashmi on Tuesday said that if the interior minister Rehman Malik had prior information about the presence of terrorists in Karachi why he didn’t take any action to prevent the Abbas Town tragedy or to arrest the terrorists.

Addressing a press conference at Karachi Press Club, he charged that mercenary outfits like Blackwater were involved in the terrorist activities in Pakistan including Karachi through their spies like Raymond Davis. He questioned if in past a particular private security company allegedly had links with the firms like Blackwater.

Hashmi lamented that over 50 people lost their lives and 150 others injured in Abbas Town bomb blast just due to security lapse, while law and enforcement agencies including police were busy in providing security to prime minister and other bigwigs who were attending the engagement ceremony of Sharmila Farooqi. He claimed no government officials still made contact with affectees of Abbas Town tragedy to start a rehabilitation process which is highly condemnable.

He urged the federal government ministers to stop blame game against Punjab government, adding that the chief minister of Punjab Mian Shahbaz Sharif has already assured the federal government it full cooperation in nabbing the banned outfits. He said there is no sectarian strife in Pakistan but the spy agencies of different countries were involved to foment unrest in the country.

He demanded that the FIR of Abbas Town blast and other blasts should be registered against the federal interior minister. He further demanded of the government to immediately start rehabilitation of Abbas Town affectees and provide them food and shelter on emergency basis as they are living under open sky without any relief.
