Political worker killed in Orangi, cop injured in grenade attack

KARACHI: A political worker was gunned down in Orangi on Friday while a cop was injured when some miscreants lobbed a grenade on a police van.

A policeman was injured when unknown culprits lobbed a hand grenade on a police mobile near Hassan Square area of Karachi on Friday morning.

According to police, assailants riding motorbikes threw a hand grenade on the police van near Hassan Square that injured one cop. Aerial firing was also reported after the explosion, rescue sources told.

Law enforcers and the bomb disposal squad reached the site and cordoned off the area. Meanwhile, the rescue teams rushed the injured to the hospital. Police arrested two suspects from the site.

Another incident of firing was reported near Pakhtoon Market Banaras area in the limits of Peerabad police station. SP Orangi Town Chaudhry Asad said one person named Mujeeb Ur Rehman, a worker of PPP, died in the incident as he was being shifted to hospital.

Separately, a body was found near Superhighway. The corpse was badly burnt.

Two persons were injured in firing in Lyari. Rescue sources said o0ne Mohammad Sohail was injured near Baghdadi Masjid while a woman injured near Lyari General Hospital.
