Polls PPP should not have boycotted Presidential Election: Pervaiz Rashid

Islamabad: Information Minister Pervaiz Rashid has said that Pakistan People’s Party should have pursued the constitutional way and apprised the Supreme Court about its reservations on rescheduling of presidential election instead of pursuing the course of boycott.

Pakistan Muslim League N had fielded its candidate in the 2008 presidential elections despite knowing that it does not have the required votes to get its candidate elected,he said here.

We were expecting that the PPP will also take forward this tradition and contest the election for further strengthening of democracy. However‚ the PPP has hurt its own democratic credentials with the boycott of the election.

Pervaiz Rashid said the PPP had not raised any objections on the demand made by the PML N to change the polling day. The statements of Opposition Leader in the National Assembly Syed Khurshid Shah are on record in this record.

He said if the PPP leaders still had reservations‚ they should have appraise the apex court about them.

Responding to a question‚ the Minister said Pakistan Muslim League N has the required number in the parliament to get its candidate Mamnoon Hussain elected as the new head of state.
