KARACHI: Karachi Metropolitan Corporation KMC Administrator Syed Hashim Raza Zaidi said on Tuesday that development works of Gulshan-e-Jinnah Polo Ground Park would be completed till September, which would be carried out with a cost of Rs 170 million.
This park consisting of 20 acres was being reconstructed under Governor Package in which all facilities along with improvement of Eidgah for Eid prayer, modern musical fountain, play area for children, jogging track and lighting tower, will be provided, he said during a visit to Gulshan-e-Jinnah where he was accompanied by Director General Parks Sadiq Rajar and other officers.
On this occasion, KMC administrator inspected construction works of park and directed to enhance the speed of construction works and complete installation of stone canopies and internal door by 30th July.
Earlier, KMC administrator was informed in a briefing that 75 percent construction work of Gulshan-e-Jinnah Polo Ground had been completed and remaining works would be completed till September. A fountain was being installed in the centre of park whereas historical importance of this place was also considered in its design.
A central door having historical importance for entering in park was also being constructed which would be compatible with architecture of Pakistan and neighbouring country China and external walls were also being constructed with the same design. The other facilities being provided in park include fascinating stone canopies, stone benches, corridors, wide lawns, lighting tower, car parking, jogging track, green fields with flowers and play area for children whereas place of historical Eid Gah in this park has also been improved and widened. Modern water irrigation system was also supplied in this park and special arrangements for car parking have been made which was a good facility for people visiting the park.
KMC administrator said that construction of Gulshan-e-Jinnah Pole Ground with modern facilities would facilitate citizens. Parks and play grounds are very important for city life where people with their families live peaceful moments.
He said that KMC was in an effort to provide better recreation facilities in various areas of the city and implementing plan for restoration of historic places in their actual condition. Zaidi said that this place as Eidgah has historical importance right after establishment of Pakistan because the biggest gathering of Eid prayer was held here.
This was an important park which had lost its attraction due to constant use without renovation works, therefore, park was being reconstructed according to modern architecture and present needs.
He said this was densely populated area along with five star hotels and big offices near due to which people used to park their vehicles on roads, however, construction of baradari parking has resolved much of parking problem. He said this was a historic place where receptions were given to renowned and significant personalities of the world.
