Karachi: Provincial minister Nisar Ahmed Khuhro has said the Pakistan Peoples’ Party government in Sindh province is not against the local bodies’ elections, while the fate of Sindh governor would be decided by the federal government.
Talking to media at the chief minister’s house after listening to public complaints, he said the new local bodies elections would be held not only for the Muttahida Qaumi Movement but for the whole Sindh. He said local bodies elections should be held in Sindh for which the local government system of 1979 is present, albeit it needs some better amendments. He said women should be given better representation in the local government system. He said in past the PPP had always taken part in the local government elections. He said they want cooperation from the MQM so as to further augment democracy.
He said the interim government had no power of new recruitments, as its duty was to supervise holding of new elections. He said the new government would review all recruitments in the province on case-to-case basis. He said the decision to continue the present governor of Sindh or appoint a new one would be taken by the federal government.
