PPP leader gun downed

Peshawar: Unknown motorcyclist on Wednesday opened indiscriminate fire upon Dr Syed Riaz Hussain, brother of former DIG Irshad Hussain due to which he was critically injured however he succumbed to injuries in Lady Reading Hospital.

According to police Dr Riaz Hussain was targeted outside his clinic located in Habib Medical Centre, Dabgari Gardens around noon in Peshawar. He was rushed to LRH but succumbed to his injuries.

According to reports the attacker was riding a motorcycle and sprayed bullets on his car near his clinic.

Dr Syed Riaz Hussain was president of PPP and a candidate for the National Assembly seat NA37 from Kurram Agency.

He had survived two suicide attack bids in the past in 2008. In Feb 2008, 63 people died and 200 were injured when a bomb went off at his election office NA37 in Kurram Agency.

The deceased was born on 11th May 1959 and was a graduate of the Khyber Medical College. He was a specialist Gastroenterologist and practiced at his private clinic located in Habib Medical Centre, Dabgari Gardens. He is survived by widow and three sons.

The family is yet to decide whether to conduct his funeral at Peshawar or their ancestral village in Parachinar.
