Private Doctors daylong strike as protest against torturing of a local doctor

SIALKOT: The doctors of all the private hospitals in Daska, on Saturday, observed a daylong strike as a protest against the nasty incident of making black the face of a local doctor and bid to kidnap him in Friday evening. The patients suffered from great ordeal due to this daylong shutter down strike by the doctors in Daska.

The doctors and paramedics of Daska’s all the hospitals, gathered in Civil Chowk of Daska City and lodged a strong protest against this nasty incident. They shuttered their private clinics and hospitals and kept them closed the whole day. The protesting doctors were carrying banners and placards and demanding immediate arrest of the accused. They refused to do work in their shuttered down clinics and private hospitals till the arrest of the accused.

They also staged a peaceful sit-in there. Later, in an important meeting held here, the Pakistan Medical Association PMA Daska chapter has formulated a five member action committee to resolve the issue.

Assistant Commissioner Daska Zulfiqar Ahmed Bhoon rushed to the spot and negotiated with the protesting doctors. He assured them the immediate arrest of the accused. On this, the protesting doctors called off their shutter down strike and dispersed peacefully.

Victim Dr. Arshad Saroya is an orthopaedic doctor at Daska DHQ Civil Hospital and is also running his own private hospital namely “Saroya Hospital Daska” in front of the Daska Civil Hospital there.

Daska City police have registered a case under sections 148, 149, 337F, 337F III, 365, 379, 427 and 511 PPC against as many as 22 armed accused including Rana Saif Ullah, Rana Naeem, Rana Mohsin, Umer and Rehmani Butt for allegedly attacking the private hospital of Dr. Arshad Saroya in Civil Chowk Daska, brutally torturing the staff and the doctor, defacing with black oil and trying to kidnap him and in their car, but the local people foiled the bid of the doctor’s abduction.

FIR revealed that the accused stormed into the hospital and created a panic and harassment among the patients admitted there, which also resulted into stampede there, as the terrified patients and their heirs fled away outside the hospital after seeing the said storming accused armed with the automatic weapons. The accused also beat up badly medical stores’ attendants Nasir Mehmood and Fahad Cheema and snatched Rs. 135000 in cash from them. They brutally tortured the doctor and paramedics in front the patients there as well.

When contacted, DSP Daska Malik Lal Muhammad Khokhar said that the accused would be arrested soon, as the police teams were raiding at various places for arresting the accused.

According to the FIR, the main reason behind the abovementioned nasty incident was that the sister of the one of accused Naimat Ullah was died there during a delivery operation at the Dr. Arshad Saroya’s private hospital a few days ago. The accused did all of that to take the revenge from the doctor, as the accused were firmly believed that the said pregnant woman was died due to alleged slackness and negligence of the doctor and the paramedics.
