Peshawar: Public Transport Owners Association PTOA Khyber Pakhtunkhwa threatened to hold hunger strike in front of Peshawar High Court PHC if authorities did not stop the extortion of money from them by the bus stands contractors within 10 days.
They warning was given during a protest demonstration organized by the transporters on Sher Shah Soori Road near Peshawar Press Club on Monday.
The infuriated demonstrators were carrying banners and placards inscribed with different slogans against the bus stands contractors.
Ziaur Rahman, President PTOA Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Tahir Bangash General Secretary lead the protesting transporters, who said that every owner had to pay Rs20000 to a bus stand as the entry fee while government had fixed Rs70100 daily charges of the stands but the contractors they alleged have been receiving Rs300500 by force which was atrocity with the transporters.
“Peshawar High Court PHC has also announced its verdict regarding the daily charges schedule and asked the concerned authority to follow the regulations” they informed and lamented there were no such facilities for transporters in the bus stands and faced various difficulties.
