Reporter faces Jirga harassment, demands protection

Karachi: A senior reporter and rights activist, who has been declared ‘Karo’ by a feudal Jirga is facing gave threats to his life and has requested the government authorities to give him and his family protection and take action against the Jirga holders.

Sikandar Ali Bhutto, Vice President Daharki Press Club Daharki at District Ghotki, Sindh, a scribe of Pakistan Press International (PPI) News Agency and member of Human Rights Commission of Pakistan, in an appeal to the government authorities has said his life is in danger as local landlords of Daharki Sahab Dino, Rano Bhutto, Qasim, Yaseen, Zulfiqar, Ali Gul and others were harassing him. He asked to lodge FIR against them and provide him and his family protection.

He said these people want to punish him as he in past had highlighted a human rights case of a local woman, Shahnaz Bhutto, who was later murdered on the charges of Karo-kari.

He said the accused had already got many fake cases registered against him and now he along with his family is living in hide. He requested the president, prime minister, Sindh chief minister, governor, IGP and other authorities to give him protection and lodge FIR against the accused.
