Karachi: Sindh minister for agriculture Ali Nawaz Khan Mahar has stressed the need of research on seeds to improve agricultural yield in the province. Addressing a meeting of senior officers of his department he said that the officers showing good performance would be rewarded while action would be taken against negligent elements. He also sought a report on steps taken to improve agriculture sector in Sindh during last five years.
He said seeds of new varieties with better yield should be introduced and research initiated in this regard. He said model farms of crops on new varieties with more yield be established and culture of modernization on agriculture promoted. He said every month seminars be held for farmers regarding new methods of cropping. He also called for planning to convert tube-wells on solar energy.
Mahar asked the department of bureau of supplies and prices to improve sanitary condition of markets and provide facilities to buyers and sellers.
Sindh agriculture secretary Iqbal Ahmed Durrani and other senior officers were present.
