Karachi: Pakistan’s top doubles duo Rizwan Azam and Kashif Sulehri clinched men’s doubles title in Yonex Sunrise Badminton Championship at WAPDA Town Badminton Complex in Lahore.
Rizwan and Kashif proved too good for their final opponents Zohaib Qamar and Nabeel Akhtar registering a convincing 2116, 2110 victory.
Rizwan and Kashif combination had been performing well at the international circuit and were also hopeful of making it to London Olympics last year. However, a prolonged ban from World Badminton Federation WBF on Pakistan Badminton Federation PBF restricted the players for making the cut for the prestigious event.
Meanwhile, Hafiz Irfan recovered from a set down to beat Umer Zeeshan in men’s singles final. He recorded a 1321, 2112, 2112 victory to clinch the title.
Sara Mohmand thrashed Ayesha Akram recording a formidable 2116, 2114 triumph claim women’s singles title.
