Peshawar: On the directives of Mr. Zulfiqar Ahmad Cheema, IGP, NH&MP and Mr. Wisal Fakhar Sultan, DIG Motorways, the SSP M1, Mr. Muhammad Tahir, conducted a Road Safety walk at Main Toll Plaza, Peshawar on 31082013 at 1100 hrs.
The walk was largely attended by the school going children, locals, NH&MP personnel and media men. The children holding banners and placards carrying road safety slogans during the walk attracted the public and road users.
A big stall was also arranged by the NH&MP Sector M1 at main Toll Plaza Peshawar whereby road safety materials, speed measuring equipment and hydraulic cutter were displayed for the general public. The patrolling officers and the school children distributed pamphlets and booklets among the commuters.
On the occasion, the SSP M1 educated the road users regarding the use of seat belt, observance of lane discipline and avoiding of over speeding and over loading.
On the occasion, SSP M1 gave a press briefing to the journalists regarding the basic motive of motorway Police in providing safe and uninterrupted travel on highways and motorways.
He also quoted the WHO World Health Organization report, according to which, Road traffic injuries are a leading cause of death, killing nearly 1.3 million people annually.
“The worldwide accidents ratio can be efficiently addressed only if all stakeholders act together in educating the motorists regarding the safe driving” – The SSP Remarked.
The SSP pointed out that the arrangements made for control of crime and accidents has resulted into great success and Islamabad-Peshawar Motorway has remained free of major crime and accidents in recent months. He attributed it to the efforts of the officers of motorway police, cooperation of the general public, and to the grace of Almighty Allah.
The motorists and media appreciated the friendly approach of motorway Police and praised the role of NH&MP in making the public aware about the road laws and guidance in safe driving. They also hoped to see such initiatives in the future as well.
