Salman steps down as beleaguered PSL MD

Karachi: Pakistan Cricket Board PCB on Wednesday announced that postponed Pakistan Super League PSL managing director Salman Sarwar Butt has stepped down and PCB director general Javed Miandad has been made interim MD of the league.

“Before joining, I had intimated the PCB of my plans and commitments beyond April 2013 which would prevent me from working on future editions of PSL. As the League is now most likely to be held after April, I will not be available to work further on this first edition,” Salman Sarwar was quoted as saying by PCB media release.

“We have therefore mutually agreed that it would make sense to appoint a successor sooner rather than later. This has been a difficult decision to make, but my personal and professional commitments would preclude me from carrying on. I would naturally be happy to provide all possible assistance to PCB and PSL even if I am not officially associated with the League, and would remain an ardent ambassador of PSL,” he said.

In the interim, PCB has appointed Javed Miandad, Director General PCB, as acting MD of PSL.

The PSL, which was supposed to be held between March 26 and April 7, had been postponed.
