SALU gives honorary degree to Qaim

Khairpur, Sindh: The 7th Convocation of Shah Abdul Latif University (SALU)Khairpur was held on Sunday.

Prof Dr. Parveen Shah, Vice Chancellor, presided over the Convocation, while Syed Qaim Ali Shah, Chief Minister Sindh was the Chief Guest.

Syed Qaim Ali Shah in his speech said he was glad to be here. He congratulated the graduates and asked them to serve the society in better manner and contribute in the development of Pakistan .

He thanked Shah Abdul Latif University authorities for giving him honorary degree.

Syed Qaim Ali Shah directed Sindh Forest Department to establish a Sindh Forest Institute at SALU and announced to allocate 75 acres of land for housing society for the faculty and staff after lifting ban on land allotment.

VC Dr. Shah said presently 516 students are enrolled in different programs of M. Phil, M.S and PhD, of them 101 are female scholars, pursuing their research work under the guidance of more than 68 PhD faculty members.

She said so far, this university has produced 74 M Phil and 53 Ph.D. research scholars.

Additionally, the University also registers more than 70,000 candidates from 84 affiliated colleges for various private and regular examinations of B.Sc., B.Com, B.A., B. Ed, M. Ed and M.A. and L.L.B programs.

Dr. Parveen Shah conferred the Honorary Degree of Doctorate of Philosophy (PhD) on Syed Qaim Ali Shah on his meritorious services in socio-political field.

Prof Shah conferred 574 master’s degrees, 11 MS, 15 M Phil and 8 PhD degrees.

Earlier over a dozen graduates protested against not giving them degrees even they paid the required fees. Meanwhile, local journalists also protested on very poor management of the convocation.
