SC directs govt to submit certificate over implementation of Flood Commission’s recommendations

ISLAMABAD: A three-member Supreme Court bench on Thursday directed the federal and provincial governments to ensure implementation of the recommendations of Flood Commission report and submit a certificate pertaining to implementation till March 5.

The bench comprising Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry, Justice Ejaz Afzal Khan and Justice Sh. Azmat Saeed, was hearing a case pertaining to implementation of the Flood Commission’s report.

The court directed the federal government and all provincial chief secretaries to ensure implementation of every recommendation made by the Flood Commission in its report.

The court expressed dismay over not making the Flood Commission’s report public and directed that the report be made public. Marvi Memon, a former legislator of Pakistan Muslim League Quaid PMLQ currently associated with the Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz PMLN, had requested the court in Sept 2011 to order revival of the Flood Commission with a view to determining if the government had failed to carry out its Flood Commission recommendations. The court adjourned the hearing till March 5.
