Islamabad: The Supreme Court SC of Pakistan has disposed of 540 cases whereas 347 new cases have been instituted during the period from Saturday 19th to Thursday 24th January 2013. The backlog remains 19462, says a press release issued on Saturday.
The backlog in the apex Court on 19th January 2013 was 19655 cases. As 347 new cases were instituted during the period from Saturday 19th January to Thursday 24th January 2013, the progressive total of pending cases as on 24th January 2013 came to 20002 cases.
Out of these, 540 cases were disposed of during the period from Monday 21st January 2013 to 24th January 2013. The backlog on 24thJanuary 2013 remains 19462 cases. The Chief Justice of Pakistan Mr. Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry constituted various Benches at the principal seat, Islamabad and branch registries to expedite the case hearings and clear the backlog.
The Chief Justice and the Judges of Supreme Court remained committed to accelerate disposal of the cases and diminish the backlog. The Judges continued to hear the case in various benches with the aim to minimize the backlog and provide relief to the litigants.
