SC disposes of 447 cases in a week

ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court disposed of 447 cases, against institution of 386 new cases d during the period from Saturday February 16, 2013 to Friday February 22, 2013. The backlog remains 19196.

The backlog in the apex court on February 16, 2013 was 19257 cases. As 386 new cases were instituted during the period from February 16, 2013 to Friday February 22, 2013, the progressive total of pending cases on February 22, 2013 came to 19643 cases.

Out of these, 447 cases were disposed of during the period from Monday February 18, 2013 to Friday February 22, 2013. The backlog on February 22, 2013 remains 19196 cases.

The Chief Justice of Pakistan Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry had constituted various benches at the principal seat, Islamabad and Branch Registries to expedite the case hearings and clear the backlog. The judges continued to hear the cases in various benches with the aim to minimize the backlog and provide relief to the litigants.
