Islamabad: Senator Mushahid Hussain Sayed, Chairman of the Senate Committee on Defence and Defence Production who is currently on a visit to Albania, met with the President of the Albanian Parliament Ilir Meta in Tirana, the capital of Albania.
The two leaders agreed on the need for promoting cooperation between the Parliaments of Albania and Pakistan.
Accordingly, it was decided to establish a Friendship Group for enhancing contacts between the respective parliamentarians. Senator Mushahid extended an invitation to Mr Meta to visit Pakistan.
During his visit, Senator Mushahid Hussain, also met other Albanian leaders, including the chair of the Foreign Relations Commission, Ms Arta Dade, the Chair of the National Security Commission, Mr Spartak Braho and Deputy Foreign Minister of Albania.
Talking to media, he informed that it was underscored that both countries enjoyed excellent bilateral relations. However, the need for greater focus on enhancing economic relations, especially trade, including through exchange of business delegations was stressed.
It was also noted that cooperation in the defence field offered an important platform for strengthening bilateral relations. In this regard, the Senator reiterated Pakistan’s offer of providing training to Albanian military personnel at military training institutions in Pakistan.
Albanian independent national TV station, Top Channel, broadcasted an exclusive interview of Senator Mushahid while the strategic visit was widely covered in the local media.
Albanian leaders thanked Pakistan for its recognition of Kosovo in December 2012, which was a manifestation of the strong fraternal links between the peoples of the two countries.
