Senior sports journalist Shams-uz-Zaman passes away

Karachi: Senior sports journalist and Olympic Hockey Umpire Shams-uz-Zama passes away at the age of 76 in Karachi on Sunday after a prolong illness, announced Sports Journalists Association of Sindh (SJAS).

The SJAS expressed deep sorrow and grief over the loss of most senior sports journalist and great Hockey lover in the country. President and Secretary General of the Association condoled with the bereaved family and pray for the departed soul.

Shams-uz-Zaman was associated with a leading Urdu daily Jang. He had covered many international events as reporter around the world and also supervised many international Hockey events as Umpire including Los Angeles Olympics (1984), two world cups in Buenos Aires and Bombay (1978-82), Asian Games (Tehran 1974), three Champion’s Trophies and also conducted several other International contests including the Junior World cup 1979, Esanda World Cup 1982 in Melbourne and Sea Games in Kuala Lumpur in 1977. He also received FIH president’s award in 2001 on his outstanding services for the game.
