Several city roads littered with garbage

KARACHI: National Forum for Environment & Health NFEH has expressed deep concern over the state of sanitary conditions in the city, characterized by heaps of garbage in street corners and dilapidated state of
the roads.

Talking to the media, Naeem Qureshi, President NFEH, said that according to a survey conducted in the past two days, it had been found that the road in front of CIA Centre in Saddar has been converted into a dumping
ground for garbage, making the passage of people and vehicles well nigh impossible.

On the other hand, the condition of roads in Saddar Empress Market, Talpur Road, Lucky Star and Abdullah Haroon Road is steadily worsened. Liaquatabad cross road, Karimabad, Clifton, Gulshan-e-Iqbal, North Karachi and Shah Faisal Colony have also suffered a similar, if not worse, state of affairs.

NFEH chief urged the provincial government to take prompt action to address this sorry state of affairs. He proposed the replacement of part-time administrator with a fulltime one to deal with the crisis. In addition, NFEH has also uncovered a very disturbing fact that to handle the sanitary needs of a 20 million person strong city, the Commissioner Karachi was only looking at his municipal responsibilities part time, in addition to his other responsibilities. NFEH has also stressed the need for better sanitary conditions in hospitals, particularly Jinnah Hospital, and other adjoining hospitals in Cantonment area.
