Peshawar: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Minister for Health Shaukat Ali Yousafzai on Monday laid the foundation of state of the art Bio Safety Level-III Laboratory as well as Regional Blood Centre RBC at Hayatabad Medical Complex, Peshawar being two vital initiatives in health sector of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa supported by German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development BMZ through German Development Bank KFW.
Construction of state of the art Bio Safety Level –III Laboratory in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa is one of its kind , a most advanced diagnostic facility for TB in the province wherein wide range of tests including Drug Susceptibility Testing DST, Culture and Gene-Xperts etc will be performed.
Speaking on the occasion, the Health Minister said “the new provincial government believes in adopting innovative means and methods to effectively control diseases in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa by utilizing advanced scientific methods. Controlling TB is one of those efforts which is taken as priority by our government”.
Peshawar Blood Centre would be one of the 10 blood centres that would meet the needs of six existing hospitals. The people of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa would have quality and standardized safe blood transfusion system after the construction work of the same centre was completed by mid2014.
Secretary Health, Dr. Fakhar e Alam said that advanced scientific solutions to the emerging challenges of TB was need of the hour. He said the construction of Regional Blood Centre RBC would initiate and ensure safe blood transfusion in the province which would be a remarkable service to the people of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Dr. Stefan Oswald, Head of Division Afghanistan/Pakistan, German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development reaffirmed the commitment of the German Government towards improving the health and quality of the lives of the people of Pakistan by providing additional funds in various health projects in the country specially Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
He appreciated the efforts and ownership of Department of Health in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and deeply hoped that German support would contribute in strengthening the health care services in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
