SHC CJ takes suo moto notice of bomb attack

Karachi: Sindh High Court SHC Chief Justice Musheer Alam on Tuesday took suo moto notice of bomb attack on SHC senior Justice Maqbool Baqar and directed provincial police chief and other officials to submit a report on the incident.

Addressing full court meeting, Chief Justice strongly condemned bomb attack on senior judge and directed provincial government to ensure that court orders are complied with in letter and spirit. Full court meeting was held to show solidarity with senior judge injured in the bombing and discuss the security issues faced by SHC judges.

Chief Justice said that the death sentence awarded to the culprits are not executed by the regime, adding that judges putting their life in danger handed down verdicts but they are not being implemented by government. Chief Justice further said that government had given unnecessary advantage to convicts on death row.

He said that to provide security to judges is responsibility of the government. He hopped that bullet proof vehicles would be provided to judges. He said that digital SHC like surveillance system must be installed in whole city to avert any untoward incident.

He said that crime rate in the city had soared as law enforcement agencies lacked GSM locator. He announced Rs0.5 million for driver of senior judge who lost his life in the attack and said that budget of SHC was limited but despite that fact martyr personnel would also be compensated.

Another high level meeting will be convened on Thursday in this regard where chief secretary, home secretary and other high officials will participate.
