SHC grants protective bail to accused nominated in EOBI scam

KARACHI: Sindh High Court SHC on Tuesday granted protective bail to the accused nominated in corruption scam in the Employees’ Old Age Benefit Institution EOBI.

A division bench headed by Justice Irfan Sadat Khan approved protective bail for Nighat Asad for 7 days for surety sum of Rs250000.

Applicant Nighat Asad approached the SHC seeking proactive bail. She through her counsel Khuwaja Naveed submitted that she was nominated in a FIR registered under section 409, 419, 468, 471 and 109 Pakistan Penal Code read with section 5 2 PCAII 1947 at FIA, CBC circle Karachi.

Applicant stated that enquiry no 30/2013 in which she has been nominated, was initiated on allegations to the effect that management of EOBI dishonestly purchased four acres of land in Malir, Karachi on very exorbitant price of Rs500 million. However, she added that the actual rate of land purchased by EOBI as per value was Rs25million.

She said that she was owner of the land but it was sold by her husband after completing all legal formalities. She submitted that she has nothing to do with the financial transactions between EOBI and her husband, adding that her husband was arrested by FIA.

She held that she had been malafide nominated in case. She pleaded the court to grant her protective bail as she could surrender before concerned court and defend charges against her.

The court granted him protective bail and directed her to cooperate in investigation.
