Karachi: The Sindh High Court SHC on Wednesday issued notice to secretary federal information ministry, Pakistan Electronic Media Regularity Authority PEMRA and other respondents in a petition against airing of more than 10 percent of foreign content by a local channel.
The petitioner Independent Newspapers Cooperation submitted that PEMRA allows local channels to air 10 percent of foreign content. However, the petitioner added that a local channel was airing foreign content than 10 percent a limit set by PEMRA.
He said that a local channel was airing 80 to 90 foreign content, which is violation of PEMRA rules. Citing secretary, federal information ministry, secretary, federal information ministry, Pakistan Electronic Media Regularity Authority PEMRA and local channel as respondents, the petitioner prayed to court to restrain local channel from airing foreign content more than 10 percent.
A division bench headed by Justice Ghulam Sarwar Korai issued notice to respondents.
