Karachi: Sindh High Court (SHC) on Tuesday issued notice to chief secretary, secretary law department and prosecutor general Sindh on a petition questioning the legal authority of prosecutor general Sindh to hold PG’s office.
The petitioner Saleem Akhtar Buriro submitted that tenure of the prosecutor general (PG) was fixed for three years and such was not extendable. He said that prosecutor general, Shahdat Awan, was appointed on May 10, 2008 and had to retire on May 10, 2011.
The petitioner said that Mr Awan had completed his tenure but he was still occupying the post of persecutor general illegally. He requested the court to issue a writ of quo warranto against prosecutor general and declare that Shahdat Awan was illegally holding prosecutor general’s office.
A division bench headed by Justice Ghulam Sarwar Korai issued notice respondents.
