SHC issues notices on petition against fake degree of Shazia

KARACHI: Sindh High Court SHC on Thursday put Election Commission of Pakistan ECP, Higher Education Commission HEC, PPP’s MNA Shazia Mari on notice in a petition seeking Ms Mari’s disqualification as Member National Assembly.

A division bench of SHC headed by Justice Faisal Arab was hearing the petition filed by Atta Muhammad Chandio, a voter of NA235 constituency in Sanghar, who cited PPP MNA Shazia Jannat Mari, Shazia daughter of Atta Muhammad, a resident of Agra Taj Colony Lyari, ECP, HEC, and University of Karachi as respondents.

The petitioner submitted that PPP’s MNA Shazia Mari contested the by-elections on NA235 constituency and was declared winning candidate. He told the two-judge bench that Ms Mari submitted a fake degree of BA along with her nomination papers bearing seat no. 31071 issued by University of Karachi.

He said that the degree was actually awarded to Shazia daughter of Atta Muhammad, a resident of Agra Taj Colony Lyari, who completed her BA in 2002 from Raunaq Islam College Lyari, affiliated with University of Karachi.

The petitioner, represented by advocate Rafiq Ahmed Kalwar further stated that PPP MNA dishonestly presented fake degree along with her nomination papers since 2002 elections, pretending that degree was actually issued to her.

He said that suspensions on her degree rose, when information including, her date of birth, fathers name, address and signature were found different from those mentioned on the enrolment form of applicant, adding that even such information also contradicted matriculation certificate and intermediate mark sheet submitted along with enrolment form by applicant Shazia, resident of Lyari in Raunaq Islam Government College.

He said that date of birth mentioned on the enrolment form is 10.10.1975, whereas date of birth of PPP MNA is 8.10.1972. Full name of PPP MNA is Shazia Jannat Mari daughter of Atta Muhammad Mari but name of student, who applied for BA degree, was Shazia daughter of Atta Muhammad.

He contended that she not only committed offence but also cheated the voters by submitting misdeclaration and is liable to be disqualified.

The petitioner prayed to the court to disqualify PPP MNA as she submitted fake degree.

After hearing initial argument, the two-judge bench issued notice to respondents and deputy attorney general and adjourned the matter to October 04.
